Clouds of Teargas

Everything looks more promising through clouds of tear gas anyway

A sweet billowing haze of tears

Tears

Through ducts and sharpens the corneas

Wise mean split swords to suppose

One can see the weakness of a man right through his iris

Like hobbits and women, the struggles of men are not for all beings

For so much is superior to the ego and might of the grown adolescents

We call men

To tears

Because of the promises through clouds of gas anyway

Everything looks more promising

Then the clouds of tear gas

When the man stand in their riot gear

Protecting nothing from nothing

Or people from their freedom

Men will insist on choosing for you

Armed to the teeth

Spewing for clouds of tear gas

Promising away everything

To other men

To another man

Simply crying from all the things

In clouds of tear gas.

On the asphalt

Resting beneath the restless clouds

Not those of mountaintops

And sierra nevadas

But the raunchy aromas of men's toys

Plastic castles covered in mildew

On the shower floor

After PE

Where the boys tossed other boys

Into trashcans

To the sounds of tears

Like the echoes through clouds

Of promises through the haze of angry soldiers

Everything clearer without clouds

The shields transparent

Like martial law

Rules at the end of baton

jzustice in the courts of imprisonment

Hope stepped upon

Like the dark asphalt

Upon which the men

Lean their straw heads

The rest of us looking elsewhere

As if fore a divergent wood in a yellow wood

Since everything looks more promising through clouds of tear gas anyway

The Vineyards Burn

I

Ashes fall from the sky like the entrails of spirits lynched from gods.  Fires burn their melting tentacles into a destructive omnipotence, the science wrath of death, the crimson clouds painted with the blood of the earth, the great storms of turf wars built up into a sky of effervescent hate, the knowledge of centuries dwindling to the ground like forgotten lovers.

Alexandria burned much the same way, with a Caesarian wit to light the wick, the words of humanity unravelled and composted like ordinary garbage, the experience of humanity deconstructed into ember magic of disappearing fates, erasing the livelihood of history.

There aren't enough synonyms for smoke.  Fumes of effort evaporate like exhaust in the traffic sun where the work of billions vaporizes into one day after another day and another day in the any other ways and means in which nature's greatest mistake fries itself.

Gasoline is the cocktail of happy hours across the planet, the stripped blood and plasma nourishment of a planet set alight.  Cheers to the martinis and cosmopolitans!  Great speech writers take the stage to highlight their concern, outside the bodies smolder and stench, foul death in the air like fresh flesh on the grate of qn unclean grill.

Spending hours and upon hours contemplating the nature of fission is like staring into the sun - when fusion explosion traps grab hold of the senses and say, like sickness in the halls of the morgue, that enough is enough.  Blind elders explaining that the end is nigh, the world collapses on the cots of refugees, while spires of infernos are only symptoms of a much greater illness.

The sickly might of a sickly child coughing into the bosom of a fearful mother, the escape makes no sense other than death.  To flee, to breathe, to sleep, to rub... perchance to dream.  These weaponized hopes of escapism are nothing more than the illusory reality, the fabricated truth, the rested exhaustion of a people on the verge of death.

No sugar, no candy, no confection, no sweet relief.  None of these little treats will replace the bounty of grapes and bread where the mother and milk nourished the mind for unending days, the careful maternal careers of matriarchs who wanted only to survive to see the smiles - their laughing child safe at home.

Candy is but a luxury... and candy everybody wants.  Lust and hate, is that the candy?  Blood and love decidedly taste so sweet.  Stealing from others the brilliance that they offer and in hopes of keeping it for themselves?  A sharing economy should be redundant and still the halls are packed with the coughing and the lame - rusted off limbs and rubbed out eyes, the blind, deaf and otherwise senselessness that condemns everyone to the same fate.

But why rush?  What is the rush?  Why is there need to hurry?  Run to windows, stare at the heavens, listen to their shrieks... the clouds are still red, the sun does not shine, the light spreads across the injured land and the world begs to return to a moment when it could breathe, turning about in space, spinning around a jubilant sun, the radioactive explosions of a central light lifting everyone.

II

Time is gone and lost.  Death is mere breaths away.

The fools of forever, they thrive in the now.

They school yard taunts of bullies

Smash against the mind; the cranium

Where forgotten assignments are swatted away

With illiterate anger

Unwillingness to learn

The human experience stunted on its own

Eroticism only just a jerk

To tug at the hearts of hollow men

Those bangs and whimpers all cry out the same

The pained forgetfulness of abused childhoods

Trauma upon trauma overwhelming any hope

Panic stretching the valley thin

The tempest of emotions, retching

Refuse colliding in midstream

Animals on hind-legs

Burnt dreams to the bottom of the basin

Nothing will grow here.

Fallow fields in shallow dirt

Roots do not stretch

Petals do not climb to the sky

Nothingness reaching for the heavens

Plants fight each other merely for survival

Twisting their stems and stalks

Pushing down anything that cannot grow

So that life alone is a laddered climb

To fight your neighbors

On the backs of kin

Thrusting those closest to you

To the ground beneath

So that they fertilize

The earth which might've nourished them.

Calculating the patterns is never difficult

The life on earth has been growing in the same way

For millions of years

Where the dead feed the living

Where the living die

And the earth spins on

Its axis no more than a titled turn

To and from the stars in heaven

The concern for one's self no more important

No more of value

Than the genocides of humanity

There is no right to care

When there is only selfishness

In a hell of ignorant greed.

The men that think their gods,

Making weather and storms

Complaining of the rain

When the fault is not supernatural,

Nor the fault even natural

The answers have been there for years

As simple as it was to rape the ground

The answers as simple as paralysis,

Cessation, finding the way for others

Making a world that thrived in balance

Still the scales are tipped

The balances pressed to the side of the masters

The weights a fiction

The burden overwhelming

The starving are sick

The sick are burning

The hellacious wrath of a celestial bodies

On fire in heaven

Descending piecemeal like some evil confetti

To celebrate a the burning sphere

Of man's own greedful enterprise

Deflated balloons and millions on the move

While the blood flees the flesh

And the richest masticate the tendons between their teeth

Gulping down the carnage like blue ribbon pie

Prize winning garbage nourishing their souls.

III

It's really sad to sit under precipitous ash with a red sun in the sky and act like this is something that could have never beenpredicted. Wineries that nourished drunken delight now burned, evacuees in the sickened houses of parents who risk death to avoid death, hurricanes simultaneously building like body counts on the other side of the continent.  The search for words persists all night, yet that search remains as uncertain as the jumbled feelings - everything uncertain: positivity and negativity almost collide; then repulse as if this were some unescapable magnet.   Pouring the world into a cup of questions and, the answers are murky, like when that first pharaoh chose to build a pyramid.  A certain resolute realization, "I cannot do this all myself."  Followed by the realization, "They could do it all for me."  If humanity can build the world to it's end, can it not deconstruct the end back to it's genesis?  Is everything so certainly finite?  To a place where the finality of man's more infirm nature is his own best friend instead of his worst enemy?  When will people ask how?  They may never. As the cauldron boils and the fire rages in the logs beneath the pot, the last thoughts are not how to get out but how to withstand the burning, the boiling, the melting flesh as it renders into the broth, the grasses and bark and weeds and flowers - the final aromatic touches for the human consommé in which bodies dissipate, a tasty gluttony of human salt and fat fit only for the monsters of industry.

IV

Return to the cribs and cradles of our own salvos, mobs and hordes at the gates of eden pleading with their maker for a second chance, apology prayers and radioactive wails that crest the walls of the fortified paradise, gaps between the slats of bones that keep out the the underserving.

A promised Moses to a promised land where they all may enter, except the lone voice of dissent?  Is this how men learn to disagree?  When the apple goads the soul and the rock quenches the thirst, who run's from instinct only to hear that being made in the image of your maker is no image at all.  Hypocrite ties that demand willful ignorance, mutilated obedience, logic meals that feed only the already full.  How does one eat when they are too starved to sit at the table?

Raging specters of hollow worth, vengeful planets carried by a sickened Atlas, knee buckling selfishness that underpins the overwhelming weight of this thoughtless place, built logically on Newtonian and Christian principles.  To each and every action is the need to treat others the same... the burning fields and slaughtered children fill the smoky sky with their ghosts and fury of howling counterpoint victims - all they do is cry on to the earth much like God's children: "Why have you forsaken me?"

Nail dagger spike bolts piercing the edges of coffins, tickling the palms of flesh, the blood trickling to the dusty terrain below.  There on the hilltop for virgin mothers to watch, the humanity passed over, the compassion edicts of dictator punishments leaving the wounded to the wolves, hungry not for food but for blood, they lap up the drops before they dry in the blistering desert sun.

The hoarding mass of minority, the few overcompensated stake holders that dangle the crumbs from their windows as the gardeners tend to the inedible roses below, pricking on the stem, the hand still bleeds.  Protein from the flesh, complex carbohydrates from the broken promises of the master above.  Their wealth shall feed the work in the yard, while forced teat sucking at the bosom of exhausted mothers wondering why the child starves even when the mother is starving.

Milk is not for wasting, crops are not for burning, roads are not for blocking, boats are not for sinking.  The effort of the experience should be shared.  The most undernourished children that survive the reckoning of viscous story times do the most damage, abused lions starved in a cage, let loose upon Christians, by Christians; Christ would never forgive what you do.

The animal snarls from the classroom exhibits, where the famished fingers from the caged beast children reach out for love.  They find only the fittest survive.  They devour the truth of hunger and hate.  They feast on the rotten flesh of their weaker siblings.  These phantasmic misfits, murdered by human hunger, fall back down from the sky and onto the multitudinous silos where the grapes of wrath are stored.

Where a fig and cluster, where a tree and vine offer secured shade and thirsty nutrition, these are leaves under which the softer lessons of life are not taught.  Blackboards and white boards are the evolution of technology but the lessons are null set technological advances - the answers undefinable, the methods punitive, the reason lost only to authoritarian commandments - thoughts deposited before entry in the celestial vineyards.

Machines in the sky twirl their metal rotors to the sound of fictitious humanitarian assistance, built on budgets that are meant for civic destruction.  The wars of centuries only inhabit self-certainties.  The traditions of people based only on murderous triumph or tear-bursting famine.  The war machines that save implemented only from boredom... when there's nothing to kill... when there's nothing to kill...

What should men do in their spare time?  Put children in the zoo, lock women in their homes, put the hungry in the fields and tell them not to touch, not to take... promising, "There will not be enough." The mirage of necessity is a beacon not of fools, but a hologram for the fattened calfs.  Tear down the screens, the projections, the falsified mandates, and eat those lie mongering veal steakmen.

Polite society is the oxymoron.  This has been said time and time and time again... and certainly bears repeating.  Like the grapes that grow every fall and the barrel-aged wine of maturity, this drunken mastery of the civilian's better senses is the hardest to manufacture.  How to peddle fiction with the hungry mouths of babes who cry from their cribs next their parents' bed.

Someday the rains will not moisten the roots.  Someday the ash will not fall.  There will be nothing left to burn.  Someday the blood will not drip from the hungry souls nor will the stank flesh of unfed mothers compost the field.  Someday there will be nothing left to press, nothing left to squeeze, the scorched earth nature of man's worst inclinations, inclined to leave the fields dry, empty, without minerals, without mouisture, without salvation.

When the land is burned and the earth is singed what will you drink then? What will you eat then?  Your own bellies distended from hunger, your common sense vicious like a starving tiger.  There will be nothing left to grow and you will look across the field and all you will see is each other: wounded prey on which to feast, hoping for one last hateful gasp into the bloodletting you've insisted on perpetually cultivating.

Galaxy Novenas

Forced words like blood through ventricles
The power of the mind
To function without consciousness
Like the heart, like the lungs
The body transmits its many necessities without my permission
Where I dream that I may be
That existence is this intentional effort
I progress without any intention of my own
Seeking control over that which I have none.

Days alight by a sun beyond my reach
Nights descend with a darkness I cannot grasp
I react without intention
I succumb to instinct without meditation
Stars that shoot across a sky
Are no more real to me than nightmares
Wishes that beset my experience
No more actual than solar winds
Like the passage of time at the bottom of a black hole.

Answers are found less in intention than in action
The cosmic truth is far more permanent than my own
Planetary rings and bottomless wells of gravity
Far greater testaments to time and God
Where the nothingness of science is everything
My own certainty of existence a flickering fleck
Pockmarked on the skin of the earth
A particle of dust spread across a weary rock
Deep beyond my own breaths.

Where the functions of the universe
Move as motley as my own existence
The blood of physics pounds
Rules against bodies bound for brutal endings
Incalculable outcomes for which they have no concern
The irrationalities and insecurities about which I worry
Fractions of consciousness contrasted
Against the million movements within me
Over which I have no control.

Independence, Oregon

Green fields, like emeralds where the ransom for a day's peace is only a deep breath.
The trees run across the ridge like that same squirrel's tail, the one who wanted nothing to do with you.
Sunlight spackles the clouds and the hues of blue come and go in the passing shade -
From beneath such pillows, briefly escaping the bright of day - sanctuary from above;
The hills roll into the switchbacks down the mountain side, where gravity accelerates everything.

Pulling the axles and the wheels into position along the curved roads takes more concentration than it's worth.
Steering a car is a matter of survival but it can be quite restrictive.
Staying inside the lines is such an ingrained skill, you hardly notice what it might be like
If the our scientific boundaries permitted us flight or excavation.  We might not need such constraints
Such that we might soar over land and tunnel through the earth - alas, these are not our talents.

Nevertheless, this is some world of imagination, where the jade and amber hillsides touch upon a dream.
Here in the sanctuary of space and freedom can lines blur into a cascading wave of emotion.
For words to matter the brain must indignantly connect with this Earthly reality.
Yet among the clouds and the leaves, the spirit can soar like not like an animal but, instead, deified.
The elastic nature of the universe is always reluctant to reveal itself but when the irons are shed
One may pause and feel the freedom of one's outstretched arms, unbound, capable in any space,
When one finally arrives here in Independence after having travelled from anywhere else.

Agapanthas

The agapanthus step out from underneath the curtain
Gardeners do not attack upon the stalk of bloom
Tentacles of summer stretching into the season
Time spinning around the bulbs
The grunge of the fungi leaves the orchids to forgive

Those damn stalks burn their blooms into the dry sun
Cells dried upon the flower, like flesh from bone.
Still like the casketed, painted like stone
Where the forever is not a matter of debate
But only matters as to interpretation

The leaves of grass sing, where the embers of spring die
The flowers of before bloom eternal
And ideas of tomorrow could never bloom.
Theorizing science is the nature of man
Whereas the nature of Nature is to consider none of this

Hunger

Quiet pain inside
Growing deeper and deeper
A rumble bellows

Feeding the injured-
Instinctive evolution-
Keeps the pain away.

If there is nothing
Can you solve an empty well
With just air and hope?

Feeding the hungry...
What isn't impossible
Creates solutions.

Those empty children
Stomaches wanting nourishment
Need real food to eat.

Yelp

I just left a really long post on Yelp.
I thought I was really clever.
In the end it was pathetic.
I came here to pay penance.
I should at least offer the universe a shitty poem.
I believe have accomplished everything I set out to do here.

Tight Spaces

Hamstring as the marathon ends
Cramps in the arms dangling in crags of caverns
Hotels in a faraway land and on currency at hand
Attics full of Christmas lights and taxidermy
Cars stuck in bumper to bumper traffic
A bathroom on any bus... really, any bus
Any cliffhanger, despite the vastness of the fall
Covers that tuck you in before storytime
Lies between the one you love and life you lead
Spoons in hammock, 'neath some palm fronded canopy
Coffins, urns, graves and mummification
but not tombs, fires, cemeteries nor pyramids
Any moment between birth and death
The heart when it's found true love
Hands held tightly believing in one another.

The Brain of Gravity

So centered in the notion of right
That it's as obvious as falling down
Truth, the slippery siren,
Screaming from the shores while the waves
Crash down, falling to the sand
Collapse one upon the other, Brother
Your sister howls in the wind.
We fight the truth like an unending war
Yet surrendering to fact day after day
As the skin falls from our faces
The dripping ruthlessness of time
Descending on our bodies
Like the darkened sky above
The sun settling in the horizon.
Shadows grow so long before our eyes
Still we insist on seeing beyond the horizon
Into the darkness
Towards a place that makes no sense
All the silly science of hundreds of years
From planet earth and into that same dark space
The fumbling understanding towards ecstasy
Like two clumsy teenagers learning for the first time
How their bodies work
The only essential aspect being the awkwardness
The right being the wrong
The facts are only opinions
This is, in fact, not a fact.
Yet arguments persist.  Meaning what, I'm not sure.
Except for several observations here from this third planet:
The rain does fall.  Not always noticeably nor furiously, but the rain does eventually fall.
The Earth spins tirelessly, not like an automobile tire but like a tired child.
The Sun is a giant ball of incandescent gas, it is not alone, it has many siblings.
Space is more vast than any person can imagine.  Can you conceive of it all?
The attempt itself proves the rule.
When you try to fit the infinite inside anything, you will fail.
The rules that we make should not be confused with science.
There are rules, facts of the solar systems
These are more concrete than any pithy human imagination
Where the whimsy of the earthbound organism is tied to its meaty wants
The universe does not bother with whimsy,
The vacuum of space, and the squishy, hydrated nature of our own bodies...
We are no match for such a ferocious certainty.
Imagine the absolute power of always being right.
But only a real fool could think I was talking about him.
I'm sure God believes in gods... or else what point is the imagination,
The spells and incantations that our words have woven
Into the sides of cave walls,
The carved faces of canvass in museums,
Painted craterous explosions in the dirt,
Twisted metal overtures to love through song.
We are an inconsistent bunch
This motley crue of socialization we call Humankind
The rules we make are simple and amendable
We change our minds to fit our needs
Because our needs, here at this little outpost in the milky way,
Are of constant reassessment -
Human comforts forcing us to ravage through our bedrock
To evaporate the gas of millennia
To disturb our Mother one more time for warmth and security
We burn away the natural order.
As the tide is high we move on
Cars, trains, planes bustling through the absolute human need for innovation
Spewing forth our twisted view of the this universe
As if this speck of pebble is the center of such a place
That the nebulae splattering the cosmos
Dare to consider our silly little lives for one moment.
Our selfishness never falls to the ground
Even these words insist that they are significant
Unless I can admit that maybe they only matter to me.
But they don't - these words explore the screen
Not because I'm interested but because I believe other people should be.
As if the rules of time and gravity apply only as I wish them to
When I wish them to
Because I wish them to.
In the end that steady invisible stream of both time and gravity
Shall beat me, like they've beaten every other person on this planet
With those truths born to my own singular experience slaughtered
Because there was no truth at all, except that I am finite,
Briefly in this moment,
While truth lingers only in that eternal battle of matter and gravity
The ultimate truth necessarily being that this is all temporary.

Leashes

My dog gets so excited when he sees his leash
It's that thing that keeps him from being free
He'd rather be outside with the that thing on
Than inside cooped up all day long

I wonder what our leash must be
Where even just a taste of whatever it is, is so sweet
Like in love or imagination, where the thought
Is enough to occupy the mind for hours

Like gods tied to their own omnipotence
And limited by only the greatest forces
The greatest joy anything can really have
Is the one it can never quite grasp.

A Rose By Any Other

Just call me Rhea, that will be fine.
Another calling won't suffice.
There needn't be another way
To get my attention isn't your job
Call me as I ask.

Just call me Rhea, even if you don't want to.
Like children born to unfit parents
Your past is your own problem.
Like history - what's done is done.
Please don't try to change it.
Listen to me when I ask.

Just call me Rhea, because I tell you.
The story is not that of mythology.
I am not the mother of the gods
I am my own god and I have this request
Would you respect your sister?
Would you respect your mother?
Respect me.  I shouldn't have to ask.

Ancient Chemistry

Tiresome anxiety so that it beats like a drum in the back of the skull
There the percussion hits the softest tenderness: a throbbing unending.
As a mounting darkness overwhelms the senses
The anvil rests heavy as the flaming swords are forged
The blades themselves burn at the edges, the only time the might save soul:
Cauterizing the wound at the instant so that the pain doesn't spill forward
But these blades will cool and turn the knife again: that the persistent anxiety;
The rudderless clouds pushing through the mountain's fog like blankets.
They come and go, bedsheets in the morning tent;
There's not comfort enough to keep still in this space.

Could one forgot all this nonsense?  I won't go back and read the past.
The shame is a powerful caged pet that comes out only for the most intimate company.
The caged beast in the corner of the house that we feed tenderized emotions
Only to enrage the monster more.  The blood as metaphorical as it is
Spills figuratively across the floor to everyone else's literal bewilderment.
All people must confront their discomfort and feed their pets of insecurity.
Lord No - not failures of perfection, not unsuccessful battles with success!
The confrontation with such opposition is, more or less, caged inside us.
The fibrous nutrition of love, nurturing a moral fiber - such imperfect science:
The human.  Their first modern love story starts with a deus ex machina:
"Your imperfection!"... and now the rest of the movie.

Entertaining the mind is not captivating the senses, they are more acute
Freezing the tissue and locking the mind is the fortune of terror
A box of untrue secrets to broadcast across the brain:
The frontal lobe is reduced to a boxing match of logic and insecurity.
The resulting fear - the unspoken fight or flight of anxiety.
The shrunken violet against the burning bush.
The botany of existence as to what the matter is.
Of course the question also sounds like, "What is the matter?"
Alas, the question for humans still isn't, "What matters?"

Science which asks what we see is hard work
Seeing what science can't see is God's work
God's work has always been the unimaginable
With hard work the unimaginable is always more imaginable
We can always imagine. If we can do the unimaginable then what is God?
The unimaginable?  Or only the imaginable?
Do you want a god or do you want to be God?

Do not bore the audience with the details.  The writer knows this.
The miracles aren't just what they want - the audience.
They want to see the miracle, again and again and again...
Like the tiresome anxiety that blasts at the back of the brain
Again and again again, a caged animal trapped in the same cycle:
Overwhelming anxiety and impossible miracles again and again and again.
When the humanity scurries under a rock and hides.

Dog Park Haikus

Folks at the dog park
Lots and lots of barking
Sniffing each other

Concrete and fences
Where everyone roams freely
Some leashes, some laws

Odors of all sorts
Natural, artificial
Scents filling the air

The story of us
Told by the moistened entrials
In the wafting breeze

Stories are many
Told beyond human barking
By dogs at their park.

What Would You Broadcast into the Universe

What eternal question or universal truth demands a submission to the gods?
Telephone messages in so many languages.  Billions of people blinking to infinity.
Lights flicker the messages of death - searing hot suns brought to their knees by physics
Waves ride across the universe on the collapsing emptiness of colliding black holes
Knowledge arrives here in the fantastic dream that we can harness the gods' expanse

What insistent claim would bring the galaxies to their knees?
Ships passing in the night silent hanging over earth like a child's mobile
Dreams careen to the wreckage of asupernatural battle
Decide which aliens deserve the right to enslave all humans.
Effort is when an individual is overmatched but their surroundings.

Can you tell the gods of time and space that you wish understood?
Understanding is the comfort food for the wayward soul.
Empathic companions will make the message travel faster.
Forgetfulness and drunkeness are the tools of understanding
Patience is the rule of the galaxy - Time always knows the story to tell.

Comfort

do i understand death for the first time?
is it the passing?
like the friends that aren't coming back?
after college, or the move, or the transfer or the the wedding?
the dear collapse of the day to day love?
is that a that the death that lives in the passing of love gone by?
when I say goodbye like they tell me to say goodbye?
then do I suppose for the first time that I actually believe it is goodbye?
an ode to goodbye?
as if the naiveté of youth disguised the truth that we are only on the stage?
but for that fleeting moment?
and whether the drama is worth the time in the globe?
the time we experience is that always the same?
and the love that is true between two people is absolute unto them?
and when I say goodbye is that burial of my feelings?
or the acknowledgment that our moment in time was forever?

Stargazing

I forget the words
Where the night collapses upon my insecurity
But if they made any sound they might speak of you:
You dancing along the shores of my dreams
You are not mean
You are crazy
You believe
Your love is stronger
Your concern is greater
You offer me the privileges of understanding
You mention love as if you respect the admiration I have for you
Your recalcitrance again an angry machine moved to make me love
You want so little other than peace and quiet to exult.

Those words are difficult
They do not fall easily before these fingers
Although I escape subject upon subject
There is a mirror of myself you make sure I see:
The darkened stage bursts under a spotlight of your navigation.
Those who defy gods should never defy you
Because the work of the universe is alive inside you.

Another Giant Wave of Sadness

There is no pretending as much as there is no hiding.
There is no protections as much as there is no happiness.
Surfing down the face of the of darkness, demons twisting
In the wreaths of seaweed and the faces of fear,
In the sponge from above there is the sheer terror
That water will wipe away the sun the from the earth,
Plunging into the deep deep locker below.
Dreams turn to terror like days on the water turn to nausea,
The undulation of the vast ocean of emotion swings
The pendulums of insecurity wide and far,
Bouncing across the bow, from stern to aft, when all of the sudden,
In deepening dampness of the sharp shine of the summer day,
The foggy bottom of the great below and the spun riddles of suffocation
Standing like somber wall flowers
Paralyzed underneath by the vast seas of sadness.

The waves pound against the shores where landlubbers stand.
Is there a fear that keeps them perched like sunflowers
Before their own descent beyond the Fibonacci science?
No - not here.  Here there is the unscientific sequential passing
To the nether world where the sunflower seeds dry and fall
So there to does the flower itself as well.  But why not plunge?!?!
Why not fall down into the dirt and the muck and the awful stench of compost.
The land buries its many fears into the worms' work.
Where the the slinky centipedes and the bustling beatles climb
Over the organic carcasses without a word or worry.
The demolition of the earthly spirit is a quiet processional;
The requiems of all souls certainly find the eternal silence.
That is not for this moment - where we contemplate the slow and unemotional
Parade from big bang to big bang.
A never ending carousel upon which ride the eternal footman -
We, the yeast in their beer,
We, the ants on their meats,
We, the dirt between their toes,
That is not for one to contemplate here.
That is only the atomical bomb of nothingness.
That your own universal composition is just a brief intersection
Of electricity and good fortune.
No, not here.  No, the Earth is not aware.
But the below, in the depths, where the sails and the surf
And the tide and moon and the tears and the hopeless -
They all collapse into a dark liquid obelisk that towers over
The water's surface and then, unlike any fallen tree that crushes the body,
The wave pummels the water below.  The long tossing beneath the surface
Bleats the air from the lungs,
The oxygen from the capillaries,
The spirit from the heart.
There is the epitome of despondence -
A massive tube of salted water foams at the mouth
Pulling towards the rabid spirals beyond physics -
The water pulls and pulls and pulls like the baby to its own umbilical...
Where on the sea floor there are no scissors,
There is only the unending attachment to the terror.
The asphyxiating awfulness of the profoundly sad world above.
Death is that sleep, perchance to dream.  And here is only the rub.
The sad unending tale of yearning - the begging for breaths and relief
Only to find the crushing emptiness of the cold ocean.

II

Pinned to the bottom of submerged canyon
One looks above to the wash and tumble of the incomprehensible world.
Sharks and dolphins spun in a mortal coil,
Twirling bodies like yins and yangs
The light skinned bellies blending in to one another.
Monochrome spirals and sparkles for a distinguished eye.
Fish which prey upon other fish which prey upon other fish
Which prey upon other fish which prey upon other fish.
No one cares, talk not of the descent,
Simple troubles for simple frenzies (no one cares).
No the crags and hollows of the cavernous ravines or the darkened palace dungeons -
There is still no escape, there is no rationale, just a darkened mystery of the pain itself.
As if questioning is not enough, there is no question that goes answered
Except for one constantly answered riddle: when will the pain return?
All the time again - all the time again.
The answer to silly questions are not so silly as they are terrifying.
How could simple confusion conjure the darkest twists of the desperate breaths?
Remember those times - when the words are breathy escapes of panic?
The unending paranoia of anxiety in the fearful breaths that come.
The simple answer would be to collapse like a sunflower,
So proud in the afternoon sun and so ashamed
Its bows its head in submission to its own brief time.
No, that is for the landlubbers, the smiling cheshire's
Dancing from myth to myth but never really attentive to the moment.
They are not submerged and caught under the sea of a rotting nothing everything.
The endless turning screw grips at the threads
Piercing further into that once unpermeated membrane.
The stinging sensation as the vessel turns
In the creeping and sweeping underwater currents,
Tthere is just the push of just dissatisfaction.
The waves above are only the symptoms of the petrified life
Resting on the ocean floor.  The exhibits of sadness within the the oceanic museum
Where the world is not one's one.  There is no privilege here.
There is no comfort.  There is the tossing torments from above.
Tsunamis that threaten the landlubbers above.
That is no comfort and the darkened world from below is past the saddened collapse
Of the eternally giant wave.  The wrecked depression of the soul
Thrust down beneath the waves where the sadness is a way of life.

Enjoy

the Silence that old friend, that attic where the owls hoot and demons and groan
that place that creeps from all the minds and the organs moan
the rhymes that cackle like ladies lost and loves bygone - yes the rhymes of eternal damnation
in the emily space, the names that bounce, the heroes of significance - redundancy
much like the conversations.  from ever, from all, the conversations
they are not unique, bland casing from listless artillery
like the agonizing screams from an in surgery amputee
the rickety shack where would she be in a shanty town love den
she hides her poetry from and the peaceful string of recorded music
pours over my ears where I hear the pounding beat of my self-involvement
a heart so strong that it fears nothing of modern medicine nor fate
she calls and the enduring longing for the siren voice springs into nothingness

what does Silence say? that never ending nagging from the back of the mind
Silence that says so much, roaring like a dying lion bleeding into the serengetti
much like the sun screams in agony as it burns in the sky
where fury makes the energy, an absence should not be considered irrelevance
the anger in the night sky might be the howls from the human prison cells
or it could be the stars raging in the science of gods and universes

questions unanswered are the Silence of the mind, such a Silence again that tugs
Silence pulling from behind the ears and into the cerebral cortex
zoos of exhibition alight in the presentation
where the casting of thousands of captives under the warm disbursement of spotlights
brings the din of the animals to cacophonous roar
a roar, that sounds in the hissing and purring of all the cages
Silence bursting forth into the iris much like
impressionists who dared in abstract - losing hearing to madness
never consider that silence is not an arsenal with which one can win a war
the devastation of a emptiness can often collapse the soul like supernova

those raging bullets in the night that fire off nothing but hopelessness
those Silent piercings of the soul
they hurt much more than the overpowering ring from the chamber
those bullets that burst the vessels to shred an organ
the damage releases far more in that Silence: the dying organism
the sutured future which operates to end the power of hope
the quiet dying from the rageful ringing is far more powerful and disastrous
than any hymn or argument could settle

when the poem is done, i'll tell you it's done
when the words are complete i'm sure you'll be quick to tell me they are
but the dictionary is a never ending story
all the words that matter so much will become emotion
the sense of sensibility will be literal
the words will be the passionate call of the past
where people yearn for balconies and gloves and suns and cheeks
when we used to beg for the touch of one another, much that the words could matter
but what I feel is within, like the rest of us
and when that internal pyre climbs to heights of curiosity there is nothing to say
in Silence.
